Credit and Debt Advice

The Credit and Debt Legal Service is a joint initiative of Darwin Community Legal Service and the Australian Government Solicitor’s pro bono program established on a trial basis in early 2011.  The service provides specialist legal advice for people affected by debt or credit problems.

This service provides specialist legal advice to people having problems with:

  • debt recovery
  • mortgages and repossessions
  • loans or credit cards
  • payday loans or unsecured loans
  • bankruptcy
  • credit reporting
  • the supply of goods and services
  • other credit or debt legal problems

We can also provide information, support, referrals and legal advice about:

  • your rights with regard to a debt
  • debt recovery procedures
  • loan disputes with banks or other lending institutions
  • bankruptcy
  • superannuation claims

DCLS also educates the community on debt and credit matters and lobbies for fairer debt and credit laws.

Advice sessions are conducted every Tuesday at Darwin Community Legal Service. For a face-to-face or telephone appointment, please phone 08 8982 1111 or 1800 812 953
