Disability Discrimination

The Disability Discrimination Service (DDS) assists people with disabilities and their representatives who feel they have been discriminated against because of their disability including in relation to:

  • receiving goods and services
  • education
  • accommodation
  • transport
  • access to premises
  • employment
  • being unsuccessful in having a special need accommodated
  • or because they have a trained companion animal to assist them

There may be other areas where you feel you have been discriminated against because of your disability. Contact us on freecall 1800 812 953 and we can advise on the options available to you.

We can assist you to make a formal complaint to either the Australian Human Rights Commission or the NT Anti-Discrimination Commission, or we can contact people on your behalf to try and resolve you complaint. We can also refer you to other agencies when this is appropriate.

DDS also

  • Makes submissions to government to improve services to people with a disability
  • Educates the community about the rights of people with a disability
  • Advises on the application of ‘standards’ issued under the Disability Discrimination Act

If you require an interpreter (including Auslan) we will provide one for free.

The Disability Discrimination Advocacy Service is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department.
