The Tenants’ Advice Service is an NT-wide, community based, tenancy advice and advocacy organisation for tenants.

The Tenants’ Advice Service represents the concerns of Northern Territory tenants in discussions with government and industry bodies and aims to improve and protect the rights of all people in the Northern Territory who live in rental accommodation, including caravan park and boarding house residents.

The Tenants’ Advice Service provides a range of tenancy information and advocacy services to tenants including:

  • a telephone advice service
  • tenancy publications
  • community education activities
  • tenancy law training
  • research on tenancy issues
  • policy development and tenancy law reform campaigns

About the Service
Established as a three-year pilot program in 2007, funding for the Tenants’ Advice Service is made available by the NT government.
The Tenants’ Advice Service is a free, independent and confidential service for residential tenants living in the Northern Territory.

The Tenants’ Advice Service employs trained and experienced advocates with expertise in tenancy matters and will provide advice and assistance to any private or public tenant in the Northern Territory.

The Tenants’ Advice Service may:
  • Help you fill in forms or agreements related to your tenancy
  • Advise you on specific problems (for example: rent arrears, rent increases, repairs, eviction)
  • Negotiate and advocate on your behalf with your landlord or real estate agent
  • Assist or represent you before the Commissioner of Tenancies or the Local Court
  • Talk to your community group about tenants’ rights

You can call us on (08) 8982 1111 or free call 1800 812 953 to make a telephone or face-to-face appointment with one of our advocates.

Appointments are available every weekday excepting public holidays.

We are located on the second level of 8 Manton Street in Darwin.
