DCLS offers a range of free legal and advocacy services. Our free legal advice sessions are held three times a week at different locations around Darwin. The sessions operate on a ‘first in – first served’ basis, so just show up and you will see a solicitor in order of arrival. (See below for details of locations). Legal advice clinics are also held at a range of venues in the Top End including Katherine. Please phone DCLS on freecall 1800 812 953 for more information. DCLS provides free legal advice sessions where you can talk confidentially about your legal problem with a lawyer. The lawyer will give you advice, suggest further action, and in some cases, help you to write a letter or prepare other simple documents. Clients may attend these free clinics more than once. Some on-going casework is provided through DCLS. We will assess requests and referrals against internal guidelines and capacity. While we can offer advice on most common legal problems, we do not give advice in the following cases:
- urgent family law matters
- criminal matters needing legal representation
- sale of property or conveyancing matters
- probate or wills
- commercial matters
Call us on freecall 1800 812 953 to check whether the legal advice sessions are suitable for you.
