DARWIN COMMUNITY LEGAL SERVICE SUPPORTS PEOPLE APPLYING FOR THE NDIS OR APPEALING DECISIONS MADE BY THE NDIS AGENCY.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new funding scheme intended to revolutionise how people with a disability are supported and funded.
The NDIS has already been rolled out in Katherine and remote areas, including East Arnhem Land.
Darwin and surrounding rural and urban areas will commence transition on 1st July 2018, however, you may start preparing for your plan as of 1st January 2018. For all general enquiries call the NDIS enquiries line on 1800 800 110.
DCLS has prepared a cheat sheet to help people understand whether they qualify, how their disability affects their life and how funding under the NDIS (if they qualify) may improve their life.
The NDIS represents a big change to the way the government supports people with disabilities, and it is expected that there will be some people who do not agree with decisions that are made.
For this reason, there is an appeals process laid out in the laws relating to the NDIS.
Darwin Community Legal Service (DCLS) has been funded by the Commonwealth Government to support and assist people who want to appeal against decisions which they do not agree with.
If you are unhappy with an NDIS decision it is important that you act fast. There are strict rules that outline appeals processes which include rigid time frames.
Having a disability which impacts on your day-to-day living, or caring for someone who relies on you to assist them can be a challenge.
For some people, trying to understand how the NDIS works can make things even harder.
If you need advice about appealing against a decision, please give us a call on 1800 812 953 or 08 8982 1111.
